                                      Mary Buck - Photographer

                                      Picture
Mary Buck is an established photographer in her community, but her love of photography began years ago when she entered college. Her first camera was an SLR film camera, the Olympus OM 1. After college, she doodled with landscape photography, black & whites, portraits, and stock photography while she worked full-time in the corporate world. As a way to fulfill her creative passion, she opened a portrait studio in 1995. Lightscapes Photographic Artwork, is located in Duluth, Georgia, just two blocks from her house. Mary is renowned for her down-to-earth business sense. She was a member of the PPA Studio Management Program for four years, where she mentored under Ann Monteith. She is currently a Certifed PPA Member and is working on her Craftsman Degree. A few years ago, she noticed that the photography industry was being inundated with new photographers, eager to learn the business, so she began to mentor in 2009. That led to workshops and educational materials on the business of portrait photography.
Mary offers many educational programs, both in person and online. She teaches a class called, "How to Start a Portrait Photography Business."
Geared toward newbies, it covers all the essentials to get your photography business up and running.  Classes are offered several times during the year in her hometown of Duluth.

Mary is also author of several E-books which she has available at her online store:

                                      • How to Start a First Year Infant Program
                                      • How to Take Creative Control of Your SLR Camera

Mary is active in her in her local community. She chairs the scholarship committee for the Duluth Fine Arts League, which distributes scholarships for students entering a career in the fine arts. She also is founder of "In Your Heart Portraits", which is a charitable organization which offers free family portraits to displaced families.

Mary lives in Duluth with her husband Paul and her two children Brittany and Jonathan (when they are not at college). Mary has two pets, Jazpur, a Welsh Corgi, and Snickers, a tabby kitty cat. Her favorite saying is "Don't cry because it’s over, smile because it happened." Life should be lived to the fullest so don't be afraid to try new things.
